Hyundai Motor Co. has announced the sale of over 1,000 units of its hydrogen fuel cell bus, Elec City Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), marking a significant achievement in the realm of sustainable transportation. The Elec City FCEV, introduced in 2019 as the world's first urban hydrogen electric bus, boasts a robust 180kW fuel cell system, an 875-liter hydrogen tank, and a 78.4kWh high-capacity battery, making it suitable for long-distance journeys and areas with high energy demands. With a remarkable range of 550 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to its advanced fuel cell technology and sizable hydrogen storage capacity, the bus offers a viable zero-emission solution for public transport. Hyundai Motor underscores the positive environmental impact of hydrogen buses, stating that each bus in operation can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 72 tons annually, equivalent to the absorption capacity of 2,700 pine trees, thereby contributing to cleaner air and a healthier ecosystem. Furthermore, the company's commitment to advancing hydrogen technology is apparent with the launch of the high-speed Universe FCEV model and a strategic partnership with KD Transport Group to convert 1,000 buses in the Seoul metropolitan area to hydrogen-powered models by 2027, demonstrating a forward-looking approach to sustainable mobility.
