Chungcheongnam-do Province in Korea is taking ambitious steps towards a more sustainable transportation system by announcing plans to procure 1,200 hydrogen-powered buses by 2030. The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with key stakeholders including Hyundai Motor and SK Innovation E&S, signed a business agreement at Cheonan City Hall to drive the distribution of hydrogen buses and establish necessary fueling infrastructure. This initiative aims to bolster the province's eco-friendly transportation network based on hydrogen technology, with the goal of curbing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing air quality. Currently, the province operates 48 hydrogen buses and 1,605 hydrogen cars, supported by 24 fueling stations. The new plan outlines the conversion of an additional 1,200 buses to hydrogen fuel by 2030 and the construction of 67 more fueling stations at bus depots. Vice Minister of Environment, Lee Byounghwa, emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting Chungcheongnam-do in its transition to hydrogen-powered transportation as part of efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and foster a sustainable future.
