NHPC Ltd, India's leading hydropower company, has announced its plan to invest Rs 5,500 crore in establishing a 1,000 megawatt solar power project in Bihar. The project is expected to be completed in 1.5-2 years from the date of land acquisition. The chairman and managing director, Raj Kumar Chaudhary, emphasized the importance of land availability for solar projects and urged the state government to facilitate land acquisition. NHPC is not only focusing on solar power but also on green hydrogen production for sustainable transportation. The company intends to set up a small solar plant to generate green hydrogen, which will be used to power passenger buses. This initiative is part of the government's push towards promoting clean energy sources. NHPC's venture in Bihar is in line with similar projects in Gujarat and other states, highlighting the government's interest in promoting green hydrogen as a clean fuel. Initially, NHPC plans to operate one green hydrogen-powered bus, with the potential to increase the fleet as more solar power is generated.
