NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to set up a green hydrogen fueling station and introduce 11 hydrogen-powered buses at Kandla Port in Gujarat, India. The MoU signing ceremony took place in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, and MLA Maltiben Maheshwari, along with senior officials from NTPC and DPA. This initiative by NTPC REL aims to transition away from fossil fuel buses at the port by promoting clean and green energy solutions, contributing towards decarbonisation efforts and enhancing energy security. NTPC has a proven track record in green hydrogen projects, having operated a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, for over two years. The company has also implemented similar mobility projects in Leh, Ladakh; Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh; and Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Additionally, NTPC is in the process of developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, aligning with its overarching goal of achieving 60 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2032. The commitment shown by NTPC in promoting green hydrogen highlights its dedication to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector. This initiative not only showcases the company's efforts towards green energy adoption but also underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships in driving the shift towards cleaner transportation alternatives.
