Key Ideas
  • NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT signed an MoU in Bhubaneswar to promote green energy technologies, focusing on a green hydrogen mobility scheme in Odisha.
  • The initiative includes setting up a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar and introducing hydrogen buses to replace fossil fuel buses, contributing to decarbonisation.
  • NTPC has been actively involved in green hydrogen projects in various locations in India and aims to further develop renewable energy capacity to 60 GW by 2032.
  • The project in Bhubaneswar received partial funding from MNRE and is part of NTPC's efforts towards a sustainable and energy-secure future.
NTPC, a leading energy company in India, has taken a significant step towards promoting clean energy by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GRIDCO and CRUT in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The focus of this tripartite agreement is to advance green energy technologies in the region, with a specific emphasis on implementing a green hydrogen mobility scheme. The MoU exchange ceremony included key officials from NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT, as well as government representatives. As part of this initiative, NTPC will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar and introduce hydrogen buses for both short-haul and long-haul operations. By transitioning from fossil fuel buses to clean and green fuels, the project aims to drive decarbonisation and enhance energy security in the city. This green hydrogen initiative is aligned with NTPC's existing projects in Surat, Gujarat, Leh, Ladakh, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Kandla, Gujarat, where the company has been successfully operating green hydrogen blending projects. Additionally, NTPC is working on establishing a green hydrogen hub in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, as part of its broader goal to achieve 60 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2032. The project in Bhubaneswar has received partial funding from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), marking a collaborative effort towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly future in the energy sector. Overall, NTPC's green hydrogen initiative in Odisha represents a positive step towards enhancing renewable energy adoption and fostering a cleaner energy landscape in the country.
