Odisha's Green Transport Revolution: Hydrogen-Powered Buses to Transform Public Transport
Key Ideas
- NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT signed an MoU to introduce hydrogen-powered buses in Odisha, focusing on green energy technologies and reducing carbon emissions.
- The pilot project, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, will see the deployment of three hydrogen fuel cell buses with plans for a hydrogen production plant and renewable energy supply.
- The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and improve bus services, aligning with Odisha's Renewable Energy Policy and NTPC's strategy for diversification into renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies.
In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, a milestone was achieved in eco-friendly transport as NTPC Limited, GRIDCO Limited, and CRUT signed a tripartite MoU to introduce hydrogen-powered buses. The collaborative effort aims to revolutionize the state's public transport system by implementing green energy technologies. NTPC will focus on hydrogen production, GRIDCO will ensure renewable energy supply, and CRUT will manage the operations of the hydrogen buses. The project, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, includes the deployment of three hydrogen fuel cell buses to replace traditional diesel buses. Additionally, NTPC will establish a hydrogen production plant at the Gadakana depot of CRUT, utilizing existing infrastructure for green hydrogen generation. GRIDCO will provide connectivity for renewable energy supply, supporting the clean energy requirements of the hydrogen buses. This initiative is in line with Odisha's Renewable Energy Policy and NTPC's strategy for diversification into renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies, emphasizing environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.
