Solaris Bus & Coach has been contracted by MZK Konin to supply five articulated hydrogen-powered buses in Konin, Poland, scheduled for delivery in 2026. This marks the Polish debut of the award-winning Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen model. Following Konin's adoption of hydrogen technology in 2022 with the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen, this new order signifies a significant advancement in sustainable urban mobility. The Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen buses are equipped with an advanced hydrogen fuel system, 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell, eight composite tanks storing 50 kg of hydrogen, and Solaris High Power batteries. These buses offer a range of over 600 kilometers under standardised eSORT tests, driven by a 240 kW electric traction motor. Mateusz Figaszewski from Solaris highlighted the company's mission to promote sustainable urban mobility and commended Konin for investing in zero-emission technology. The initiative aims to bring comfort to passengers and cleaner air to the city, with high passenger capacity and a short refuelling time making the buses ideal for urban routes. Supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, the project covers 90% of the funding and includes infrastructure improvements such as a new bus depot, a transfer hub at the railway station, and an upgraded traffic management system, as part of a broader regional initiative to modernize Konin's public transport system.
