Salisbury is set to embrace a new era of sustainable public transport with the announcement of a fleet of 23 zero emission buses to be introduced by early 2026. The successful bid by Salisbury Reds and Wiltshire Council secured funding from the Department for Transport’s ZEBRA scheme, totaling over £11.5m. The investment will see UK manufacturer Wrightbus supply 11 double decker and 9 single decker electric buses with advanced features like contactless payments, USB charging points, and wheelchair accessibility. This initiative is part of a joint effort to revolutionize Salisbury's city network and Stonehenge Tour services, with the aim of providing greener, better journeys for passengers and significantly reducing carbon emissions in the city. Wrightbus, known for its expertise in electric and hydrogen vehicle development, will contribute to decarbonizing the transport sector with its innovative products. The partnership between DfT, Salisbury Reds, and Wiltshire Council signifies a commitment to sustainability and improving air quality.
