South Korea has experienced a significant surge in hydrogen demand within the mobility sector, with consumption reaching 6,389 tons between January and September, marking a 59% increase from the previous year's 4,016 tons. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy highlighted the growth, emphasizing the expanding opportunities for people to engage with hydrogen products in their daily lives, particularly due to the rise in hydrogen buses. Deputy Minister Lee Ho-hyeon stressed the importance of a stable hydrogen supply to support the industry, with plans for close monitoring and coordination among relevant stakeholders. Additionally, the government's initiative to designate Donghae, Samcheok, and Pohang as hydrogen-specialised complexes signifies a strategic move to develop hydrogen industry hubs. These cities passed feasibility surveys and will receive significant investments for various hydrogen projects, including storage facilities, hydrogen liquefaction plants, and fuel cell generation clusters. Furthermore, the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority will conduct inspections at hydrogen facilities across the country to ensure market stability and support the sector's growth.
