Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has resumed the trial operation service of its hydrogen-powered buses in Kuching, Malaysia, after completing maintenance works. These buses are offering free rides on the Downtown Heritage Loop and Damai Loop to gather first-hand knowledge on zero-emission vehicles and raise public awareness on hydrogen mobility. The initiative, which started in 2020, has garnered positive feedback, with over 60,000 passengers benefiting from the service. Sarawak Metro's CEO, Mazli Mustaffa, highlighted the importance of the trial in understanding and managing hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles for public transport, emphasizing its role in decarbonising the sector. The data obtained will inform the design of future hydrogen buses to support the Kuching Urban Transportation System. These buses will provide connectivity for the Autonomous Rapid Transit system, aligning with Sarawak's goal of transforming the public transport sector with hydrogen technology.
