Tata Motors is set to initiate a pilot project involving trucks powered by hydrogen internal combustion engines, in collaboration with IOCL, as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The project will see trucks operating on three specific routes for 18 months, with a focus on gathering valuable data to improve product efficiency and hydrogen fuel infrastructure. This move comes after the recent unveiling of a hydrogen-powered truck at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Tata Motors' Executive Director, Girish Wagh, highlighted the company's readiness for both hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cell electric vehicles. The firm aims to facilitate the commercial launch of hydrogen fuel vehicles within the next 1-2 years, backed by government support for sustainability and electrification. Wagh emphasized Tata Motors' commitment to a significant transformation based on sustainability, safety, and digital and Artificial Intelligence integration, aiming to provide enhanced value propositions in the competitive commercial vehicles market. Anticipating positive market outcomes, Wagh expressed optimism for the upcoming quarter and cited government interventions, such as FAME incentives and PLIs, as driving forces towards a sustainable future in the automotive industry.
