Toyota Motor Corporation has revealed its third-generation fuel cell system aimed at enhancing durability, fuel efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, particularly for commercial applications. Set to be launched in markets like Japan, Europe, North America, and China starting in 2026, the system will be showcased at the H2 & FC EXPO in Tokyo. Toyota emphasizes hydrogen as a crucial fuel for achieving carbon neutrality and continues to push for its adoption, collaborating with industry partners. The 3rd Gen FC System will focus on heavy-duty commercial vehicles, boasting durability comparable to diesel engines, high power output, and a compact design for easy integration. Advancements include twice the lifespan of the previous generation, a 20% improvement in cruising range, and reduced production costs. Having supplied over 2,700 units globally since 2019 for buses, trains, and stationary power generators, Toyota aims to expand fuel cell technology across industries to support a hydrogen-based economy. The company plans to partner with local governments and industry players to speed up hydrogen adoption and promote sustainable energy solutions.
