The UK government and a bus operator have unveiled a plan to invest £500 million in manufacturing 1,200 zero-emission buses, a move aimed at transitioning to greener public transport. These buses, to be deployed over the next three years in regions like London, Plymouth, and Isle of Wight, will offer cleaner transport options. The initiative will create 500 new jobs at Wrightbus and an additional 2,000 jobs in the UK supply chain by 2026, driving economic growth. For every bus produced, 10 trees will be planted in operating cities to reduce the carbon footprint. The investment also sets up a tree-planting initiative and aims to boost the UK's zero-emission bus manufacturing capabilities. The government plans to establish a Bus Manufacturing Expert Panel to support the industry and promote sustainability. This investment not only enhances public transport but also fosters sustainable economic growth by creating jobs, adopting green technologies, and attracting international investments.
