Walmart Canada has taken a significant leap towards sustainability by introducing its first hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, a Nikola Class 8 tractor, to its fleet in Ontario. Running out of Mississauga, the hydrogen truck has a range of 800 kilometers, allowing it to avoid emitting up to 97 metric tons of CO2. This move is part of Walmart's commitment to becoming a regenerative company, as stated by Gonzalo Gebara, the president and CEO of Walmart Canada. The company aims to deploy the hydrogen truck on long-haul delivery routes around Ontario as part of its ambitious plan to power 100% of its fleet with alternative power sources. Walmart's initiative to embrace hydrogen as an alternative power aligns with Ontario's efforts to build a hydrogen economy.
