At the Cenex Expo 2024 event held at Millbrook, Wrightbus unveiled a 'demonstrator' hydrogen coach, showcasing its commitment to developing a powertrain for its upcoming hydrogen-fuelled coach. This vehicle, utilizing a standard bus body, signifies a significant step towards decarbonizing coaches in the public transport sector. The company expressed gratitude for the support received from various entities including the Department for Business and Trade, the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC), Queen’s University Belfast, and Symbio in realizing this project. The hydrogen coach, with a 300kW powertrain, is expected to cover an impressive 1,000km on a single refuelling, demonstrating the potential for clean energy adoption in the transportation industry. Wrightbus CEO, Jean-Marc Gales, highlighted the company's dedication to innovation and sustainability, showcasing their history of pioneering initiatives like the world's first hydrogen-powered bus. Director of Engineering, Robert Best, also emphasized the progress and innovation trajectory of Wrightbus in the bus industry, underlining their commitment to driving advancements in technology and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
