Baltic Sea TSOs Collaborate for Hydrogen Infrastructure Development
Key Ideas
  • Nine gas TSOs around the Baltic Sea sign MoU to coordinate hydrogen infrastructure development.
  • Initiative aims to promote market development for hydrogen in the region.
  • Companies involved include key players from Germany, Poland, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Sweden, and Latvia.
Nine gas transmission system operators (TSOs) from countries bordering the Baltic Sea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to coordinate and facilitate the buildout of hydrogen infrastructure. The aim is to foster market development for hydrogen as a greenhouse gas-neutral fuel in the Baltic Sea region. This initiative was announced by German gas grid operator Gascade in a press release. Alongside Gascade, other companies involved in this collaboration include fellow German TSO Ontras Gastransport, Poland's Gaz-System, Estonia's Elering, Energinet in Denmark, Finnish TSO Gasgrid Vetyverkot, Lithuania's Amber Grid, Nordion Energi in Sweden, and Latvia's Conexus Baltic Grid. The joint effort signifies a significant step towards enhancing the infrastructure necessary for the widespread adoption of hydrogen in the region. Through this collaboration, the TSOs aim to streamline the development process and create a conducive environment for the growth of the hydrogen market, ultimately contributing to the decarbonization goals of the Baltic Sea countries.
