German officials in Lower Saxony have launched the world's first fleet of hydrogen passenger trains, heralding a new era in sustainable transportation. The 14 trains, equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, replace 15 diesel trains on unelectrified tracks. The German government's support for hydrogen as a clean energy source is evident in this initiative, emphasizing its commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels. State Governor Stephan Weil praised the 93 million euro project as a prime example of efforts to promote eco-friendly practices and boost the region's economy. The French company Alstom manufactured the trains, which are now operated by the regional railway company LNVG, servicing routes between cities like Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde, and Buxtehude.
