Indian Railways, in a groundbreaking move towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, is all set to launch its first hydrogen train as part of the broader 'Hydrogen for Heritage' initiative. This ambitious project aims to operate 35 hydrogen trains on various heritage and hill routes across the country, with the first one allocated to the Northern Railway's Delhi Division. The hydrogen train is slated to operate on the 89-kilometer Jind-Sonipat section with trial runs scheduled to commence by December this year. This initiative, supported by a significant financial allocation, highlights the green transportation shift with hydrogen fuel technology, emphasizing a cleaner energy source.
