These smart rail trains have undergone substantial upgrades in autonomy, comfort, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Key features include autonomous driving capability, wider channels for passenger comfort, 10% climbing ability for diverse terrains, lightweight design for energy savings, and additional multifunctional areas within the carriages. The deployment of these hydrogen-powered trains will enhance the urban transportation system in Kuching, connecting it with Kota Samarahan along the blue, red, and green lines. The project aims to introduce 38 CRRC hydrogen-powered smart rail trains in phases, with 17 trains expected to be operational before 2025 and the remaining by the end of the same year.
