Siemens Mobility has launched the First Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains in Germany, marking a significant milestone in sustainable travel. These hydrogen trains, which will begin passenger service in December 2024, offer emission-free solutions by using locally produced hydrogen as their power source. By replacing diesel trains in regions like Bavaria and Berlin-Brandenburg, the Mireo Plus H trains aim to reduce CO2 emissions and ensure eco-friendly travel options. Operating on the Heidekrautbahnline in Berlin-Brandenburg, these trains are expected to save 1.1 million liters of diesel fuel annually, with water vapor as the only by-product of their hydrogen fuel cells. The trains are equipped with advanced propulsion technology, allowing them to travel up to 1,200 kilometers per charge and reach speeds of 160 km/h, catering to modern travel needs. Additionally, Siemens Mobility is introducing battery-electric trains in East Brandenburg to further reduce diesel usage and eliminate local CO2 emissions. The company's sustainability efforts extend to improving connectivity on various key routes, such as the Danube-Isar network and Regensburg-Danube Valley, showcasing a commitment to innovation in sustainable rail systems. These initiatives align with Bavaria's plan to phase out diesel trains by 2040 and signify a shift towards greener public transportation options in Germany.
