TKIL Industries, formerly Thyssenkrupp Industries India, has made a significant move by acquiring a stake in Swiss company Sohhytec SA. This acquisition provides TKIL access to advanced technology for producing green hydrogen directly from solar energy. TKIL's Chief Executive Vivek Bhatia highlighted the company's plans to produce pressurized hydrogen and establish the necessary infrastructure for storing and refilling vehicles, including conversations with oil marketing companies to create hydrogen-based retail facilities. The technology developed by Sohhytec enables the production of green hydrogen using sunlight alone, with a capacity of up to 100 MW. TKIL aims to sell this capacity across various industries within the next year, including applications in steel plants and other sectors. The cost of manufacturing green hydrogen is estimated to be around Rs 400 per kg, without the inclusion of subsidies. Saurabh Tembhurne, the founder of Sohhytec, emphasized the modular and off-grid nature of the technology, making it suitable for remote locations with minimal land requirements. TKIL Industries is also considering further expansion into green hydrogen production as part of its growth strategy, with plans to triple its revenue to Rs 10,000 crore in the next five years. The company has expressed confidence in its financial capabilities to support these expansion efforts.
