ACWA Power Signs MoU with Tunisian Government for Green Hydrogen Project
Key Ideas
- ACWA Power and the Tunisian Government signed an MoU to explore the production of 600,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen for export to Europe.
- The project involves developing 12GW of renewable energy units, electrolyzer capacity, and battery storage facilities in three phases.
- The initiative aligns with Tunisia's national green hydrogen strategy targeting annual production of 8.3 million tonnes of green hydrogen and byproducts by 2050, aiming to create a sustainable future.
ACWA Power, a global leader in energy transition and green hydrogen, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tunisian Government to explore the production of green hydrogen for export to Europe. The agreement focuses on developing a project to produce up to 600,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen in three phases. The first phase will involve installing 4GW of renewable energy units, 2GW of electrolyzer capacity, and battery storage facilities to produce 200,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen. The green hydrogen will be exported through the South2 Corridor, connecting Tunisia to Europe. This initiative aligns with Tunisia's national green hydrogen strategy, aiming to produce 8.3 million tonnes of green hydrogen and byproducts annually by 2050. The project is expected to leverage Tunisia's strengths, including its strategic geographic location and skilled workforce, to create a more sustainable future.
