The UK government, a significant investor in South Africa, is actively seeking to enhance the country's critical minerals value chain by focusing on exploration, production, and value addition. At the event, Phillipson will explore ways in which the UK can collaborate with South Africa to meet the increasing demand for energy transition metals. Additionally, the UK's Climate Finance Accelerator program has selected two South African startups, Creslow Energy Solutions and Manganese Metal Company, to receive support in advancing their renewable battery and manganese production capabilities. The program aims to provide technical and financial assistance to innovative startups in the critical minerals sector. The summit will also see South Sudan's Minister of Mining Martin Gama Abucha discussing the country's partnerships to unlock its significant copper reserves and untapped reserves of zinc, manganese, nickel, and cobalt essential for energy transition technologies. The event will serve as a platform for engaging British investors and mining firms to further develop South Africa's critical minerals sector and explore new mining projects in South Sudan.
