China has marked a significant leap in renewable energy with the launch of the Rudong offshore photovoltaic-hydrogen energy storage project, situated in Rudong County, Jiangsu Province. Developed by Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd., under CHN Energy Investment Group, the project commenced operations on December 31, 2024. With an impressive capacity of 400 megawatts, the Rudong project surpasses the previous leader, the Kuqa Green Hydrogen Plant in Xinjiang. Expected to generate 468 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, the project is projected to save 151,000 tonnes of coal and reduce emissions significantly. It integrates photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen production, energy storage, and hydrogen refueling, supporting grid stability and coastal ecological management.
