The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the Green Hydrogen initiative at its Research and Development Center within the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, generating approximately 90 tons of green hydrogen since May 2021. A significant portion of this hydrogen has been utilized for green energy production, contributing to a reduction of over 40 tons of CO2 emissions by powering 500 vehicles at Expo City Dubai. The initiative, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, aims to drive sustainable mobility in Dubai by offering green hydrogen at its filling station. The project aligns with national strategies, including the National Hydrogen Strategy and the UAE's Net Zero 2050 Strategy, while supporting Dubai's Green Mobility Strategy 2030. DEWA's focus on sustainable transport solutions, such as electric and hybrid vehicles, further reinforces Dubai's position as a global leader in the green economy and sustainable development. Collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai and Siemens Energy has enabled the production of hydrogen from solar energy, showcasing Dubai's commitment to energy innovation and environmental sustainability.
