Africa possesses significant renewable energy potential, including solar, hydro, wind, and hydrogen sources. Despite this, energy poverty remains a critical issue, with 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lacking electricity access. The continent also harbors essential minerals for electric vehicles and hydrogen production. Challenges to renewable energy development in Africa include the absence of effective policies, inadequate investment in infrastructure, and limited technical expertise. China has emerged as a key player in renewable energy, leading global transition efforts. Through initiatives like the Belt and Road and Global Development Initiative, China is investing in clean energy projects across Africa, focusing on solar, hydropower, and wind technologies. China not only provides technology but also emphasizes capacity building by training local technicians and engineers. Projects like the China-Africa Clean Energy Technology Demonstration Centre in Kenya showcase renewable technologies and offer technical training. By integrating capacity building with technology transfer, China aims to create a self-sustaining knowledge base in African countries. The China-Africa Green Development Fund further supports green technology projects in Africa. To enhance collaboration, China plans to establish a comprehensive cooperative model with Africa, emphasizing multilevel communication and sustained impacts.
