A report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in collaboration with Namibia's Ministry of Mines and Energy emphasizes the country's unique advantages in renewable energy. The report, 'Renewable Energy Opportunities for Namibia,' was launched at African Energy Week 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa. The study points out Namibia's exceptional solar and wind potential, which, if harnessed effectively, could transform the country's electricity sector, enhance energy security, and reduce costs for consumers. Additionally, by leveraging renewables, Namibia's mining industry could lower energy expenses, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve competitiveness in global markets. The report also highlights Namibia's capacity to produce renewable hydrogen, suggesting the possibility of establishing a low-emission regional industry that attracts investments and fosters workforce development.
