The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has projected a bright future for the green hydrogen sector, estimating that it will create over four crore jobs by 2050. During the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2024) in New Delhi, India announced its partnership with the European Hydrogen Week, scheduled for November 2024. This partnership is aligned with India's strategy to comply with European Union green regulations and enhance the country's hydrogen exports. The conference witnessed the participation of over 100 industry players and 2,000 delegates, signifying a significant milestone in India's green hydrogen push. One of the notable outcomes of the conference was the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between Chane Terminal from the Netherlands and ACME Cleantech from India to establish ammonia import terminals. This collaboration is set to fortify India's hydrogen infrastructure, paving the way for further advancements in hydrogen technology. Discussions at the conference shed light on the EU’s Emission Trading System (ETS) reforms, which are anticipated to effectively price carbon and position hydrogen as a competitive alternative to fossil fuels. Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, engaged in talks with Dr. Patrick Hartley of CSIRO, Australia, exploring the challenges and opportunities in hydrogen development and highlighting the significance of international partnerships. Ajay Yadav, Secretary of MNRE, emphasized the pivotal role of green hydrogen in shaping India's energy future during a session focused on youth engagement. He underscored the importance of instilling a passion for sustainability and innovation among the youth to drive the country towards a more sustainable energy landscape. ICGH-2024 continues to serve as a crucial platform for fostering international collaboration and advancing green hydrogen technology, with stakeholders from India and around the world working together towards a more sustainable energy ecosystem.
