Isondo Precious Metals, a fuel cell component manufacturer in South Africa, is set to launch its advanced manufacturing facility in Johannesburg this August. The facility will process platinum group metals (PGMs) for use in electric vehicles (EVs) and green hydrogen technologies. Vinay Somera, the CEO of Isondo Precious Metals, will discuss South Africa's role in the global green hydrogen and EV supply chain at the Critical Minerals Africa (CMA) Summit in Cape Town in November. With South Africa holding substantial PGM reserves that account for 90% of the global share, the country has significant potential to attract investments focused on critical minerals. The demand for clean hydrogen is expected to rise significantly by 2050, further enhancing South Africa's position in the green hydrogen market. The company's initiatives also aim to advance job creation, local skills development, and support the clean energy transition. Isondo Precious Metals has already begun recruiting young graduates for its electrolyzer manufacturing facility, aligning with South Africa's local content development objectives. At CMA 2024, Somera will participate in discussions, project showcases, and networking sessions to showcase investment opportunities in Africa's PGMs sector and share insights on maximizing mineral processing activities.
