The initiative aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem for green hydrogen production, focusing on renewable energy sources and infrastructure development. By investing significantly in renewable energy (Rs 12,687 crore) and electrolyser and ammonia plants (Rs 4,166 crore), Kerala is positioning itself as a crucial player in India's shift towards clean energy.
The project timelines are divided into three phases: phase-1 (2024-25) involves setting up green hydrogen clusters, phase-2 (2026-2030) focuses on deploying green hydrogen technologies, and phase-3 (2030-2040) is dedicated to scaling up the utilization of green hydrogen in various industries. This initiative is expected to have a substantial impact on India's clean energy journey.
To support the project, the government is contributing Rs 731 crore for different purposes such as techno-commercial assessments, transmission infrastructure, pipeline and refueling infrastructure, and offtake infrastructure. The development of renewable energy will require Rs 903 crore in phase-I and Rs 836 crore in phase-II, with the option to develop renewable energy in Kerala or import it from other Indian sites. Additionally, Rs 10,948 crore is allocated for phase-III additions with resources from Indian renewable energy sources.
