African leaders and international investors have convened in Namibia to explore the potential of hydrogen in advancing the continent's green energy future. The three-day summit is intended to attract investment in hydrogen, positioning it as a pivotal player in Africa's transition towards sustainable industrial practices. Despite the promise of green hydrogen, challenges such as high production costs and its marginal representation of less than 1% in global production present significant barriers. The expansion of renewable energy sources and the development of supportive infrastructure are identified as crucial steps towards making hydrogen a practical alternative to traditional fossil fuels. While there are obstacles to overcome, hydrogen offers a promising avenue to decrease reliance on fossil fuels and pave the way for a greener energy landscape in Africa.
