VNG AG, based in Leipzig, has initiated a groundbreaking collaboration by signing a letter of intent in Oran, Algeria, with Algerian energy companies Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, as well as Italian, Austrian, and other partners. The agreement aims to explore the feasibility of a large-scale green hydrogen production project in Algeria and its export to Italy, Austria, and Germany via the 'South H2 Corridor.' The partnership, led by VNG AG, underscores the potential of Algeria as a significant green hydrogen producer and emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in meeting the rising demand for hydrogen in Europe. This collaboration not only aims to diversify supply portfolios but also to secure future energy supply with decarbonised gases, contributing to a more sustainable energy system. Hans-Joachim Polk from VNG AG highlighted the importance of this partnership in advancing the hydrogen economy and meeting the energy needs of the future. The joint effort includes studying the technical and economic aspects of the project to ensure its viability. This initiative aligns with VNG AG's commitment to renewable and decarbonised gases, in line with their 'VNG 2030+' strategy, which focuses on a transition to a climate-neutral energy system.
