Black & Veatch, a global construction and engineering company, has been tasked with studying green hydrogen commercialization pathways and infrastructure development in Malaysia. This study is a collaboration with Malaysian energy companies, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). The objective of the feasibility study is to confirm the outcomes of a joint study conducted by TNB and PETRONAS to promote hydrogen in Malaysia. The study by Black & Veatch will offer strategic, technical, and commercial insights on the production, transportation, distribution, and demand for green hydrogen. Malaysia envisions establishing a hydrogen economy, as outlined in the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), aiming to become a significant hydrogen exporter in the Asia Pacific region by 2050, with an estimated revenue exceeding US $85 billion. The study recognizes Malaysia's abundant renewable resources, such as solar and hydropower, as pivotal for shaping the country's hydrogen economy in the coming years.
