Trigon Pacific Terminals has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority to develop a market for Canadian ammonia, a crucial carrier for hydrogen. This partnership is aimed at strengthening the hydrogen trade between Canada and South Korea, aligning with both nations’ goals for a cleaner energy future. Trigon is building a new export berth in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, supported by a federal grant, dedicated to exporting clean fuels like ammonia to global markets, especially in Asia. The collaboration involves the development of ammonia receiving terminals in Ulsan, South Korea, where Canadian ammonia will be processed into hydrogen and nitrogen to meet the region's increasing demand for clean energy. Canada's shift away from thermal coal exports is part of its strategy to become a significant low-carbon hydrogen producer by leveraging its natural resources and carbon capture infrastructure in Alberta. The partnership between Trigon and South Korean officials signifies a crucial step towards establishing a sustainable hydrogen supply chain between North America and Asia, contributing to Canada's ambition of leading in clean hydrogen production and exports.
