Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun recently met with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Seoul to discuss cooperation in the areas of hydrogen-fueled cars and electric vehicles. Hyundai, known as the largest EV seller in Indonesia, plans to double its production capacity in the country after establishing a plant with an annual production capacity of 125,000 units. The company is currently producing a range of vehicles, including the Stargazer and IONIQ 5, in Indonesia and has initiated the production of battery cells in collaboration with LG Energy Solution Ltd. This joint venture is set to receive a total investment of $1.1 billion to expand its production capacity. Moreover, Hyundai is engaging with Indonesia on a smart city initiative in Nusantara, aligning with the country's plans to relocate its capital. The partnership aims to introduce advanced air mobility systems to reduce traffic congestion in the new capital city. Chung's frequent visits to Indonesia demonstrate Hyundai's commitment to expanding its business cooperation with the country, focusing on various sectors such as EVs, batteries, bio, agriculture, petrochemicals, and steel.
