Running on green ammonia could increase journeys by 26%, while green methanol could boost journeys by 8%. With two-thirds of Europe-Asia traffic passing through the Strait of Gibraltar and European ships aiming to rely on green hydrogen for 80% of their energy by 2050, Morocco's geolocation positions it favorably to emerge as a crucial bunkering hub. The country's substantial solar power generation capacity (734 MW) and wind power production (1.4 GW) further strengthen its appeal, offering the necessary renewable energy sources for green hydrogen production. Despite being a minor player in marine bunkering currently, a potential shift in bunkering patterns could represent a significant economic opportunity for Morocco. By adapting to the changing landscape of sustainable shipping and leveraging its renewable energy advantages, Morocco stands to boost its national revenue through increased fuel sales and solidify its position as a key player in the green shipping fuel sector.
