The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of Peru announced the successful outcomes of the 14th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Lima. Peru's presidency of APEC 2024 facilitated the adoption of key initiatives aimed at advancing clean and sustainable energy practices in the Asia-Pacific region. The Lima Energy Ministerial Declaration, Guidelines for Clean and Low-Carbon Hydrogen Policies, and the Just Energy Transition Initiative were among the notable agreements reached. The Ministerial Declaration on Energy emphasizes measures to address environmental challenges, energy poverty, and promote global energy transition goals. It highlights the importance of universal energy access, energy security, and the deployment of low- and zero-emission technologies. The Policy Guide endorsed the significance of clean and low-carbon hydrogen in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and driving energy transitions across sectors. The Just Energy Transition Initiative focuses on engaging various stakeholders including the private sector, civil society, and indigenous communities to ensure a holistic approach to energy transition. The commitments made by the 21 economies involved are expected to shape future energy policies and promote sustainable development. Participation from organizations like the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) and the APEC Sustainable Energy Centre (APSEC) further enriches the discussions towards sustainable and resilient energy practices in the APEC region. The collaborative efforts aim to create a more inclusive and environmentally friendly energy landscape for the future.
