Senoko Energy, a major energy company in Singapore, and Gentari, a clean energy solutions provider, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore importing hydrogen gas from Malaysia to Singapore. The collaboration aims to integrate hydrogen into Senoko Energy's gas turbine assets to improve efficiency and environmental performance. The hydrogen supply agreement from Gentari is expected to commence by 2029, contributing to an annual reduction of 18,000 t CO2e in carbon emissions initially, with a potential increase to 535,000 t CO2e in subsequent phases. This partnership supports Senoko Energy's ambition to lead in bringing hydrogen to Singapore for power generation, aligning with the country's 2050 net zero target. Frederik Baerts, Senoko Energy's President & CEO, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in advancing the energy transition and creating a sustainable energy landscape. Similarly, Gentari sees this partnership as a crucial step in establishing a hydrogen backbone for Southeast Asia and accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen across industries. Senoko Energy's commitment to sustainable energy is further demonstrated through other initiatives, including exploring hydrogen opportunities with City Energy and implementing SolarShare 2.0 for solar energy trading. Concurrently, Gentari is actively developing Malaysia's hydrogen economy and clean ammonia projects in India, aiming for commercial production of over 5 million tpy by 2030. Overall, the collaboration between Senoko Energy and Gentari signifies a positive step towards enhancing sustainable energy solutions in Singapore and the region, emphasizing the pivotal role of hydrogen in achieving a low-carbon future and supporting the energy transition.
