TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have partnered to produce renewable hydrogen at the La Mède biorefinery in southeast France as part of the companies' efforts to decarbonize. This project, complementing the Masshylia initiative, will significantly reduce the refinery's CO2 emissions. Air Liquide will construct and manage a renewable hydrogen unit with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons, utilizing coproducts from the biorefinery to produce biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel. The total investment for this endeavor amounts to €150 million. TotalEnergies emphasizes its commitment to sustainability, aiming to use low-carbon hydrogen to reduce CO2 emissions by three million tons annually by 2030. The company is also advancing the Masshylia project with ENGIE to produce green hydrogen through water electrolysis, with plans to start operation in 2029.
