Agreement Signed for Supply of Renewable Hydrogen from Nordics to North-Western Europe
Key Ideas
  • Provaris Energy, Uniper Global Commodities, and Norwegian Hydrogen have agreed on a term sheet for supplying renewable hydrogen from Nordics to North-Western Europe.
  • The hydrogen, produced via electrolysis using renewable electricity, will be delivered in gaseous compressed form using H2Neo carriers.
  • Uniper will be the buyer at a fixed price and manage the receiving terminal in North-Western Europe, with deliveries expected to commence in early 2029.
  • The agreement sets a minimum term of 10 years for the hydrogen supply, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy sourcing.
Energy companies Provaris Energy, Uniper Global Commodities, and Norwegian Hydrogen have finalized a conditional term sheet for the supply, transport, and offtake of renewable hydrogen from the Nordics to North-Western Europe. This milestone agreement lays the groundwork for further negotiations toward a binding hydrogen sale and purchase agreement scheduled for June 2025. The agreement outlines the delivery of 42,500 tonnes per year of RFNBO-certified hydrogen, a renewable fuel of non-biological origin produced through electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. The hydrogen will be transported in gaseous compressed form using Provaris' H2Neo carriers. Uniper, one of the signatories, will act as the hydrogen buyer at a predetermined fixed price and will oversee the receiving terminal in North-Western Europe for the hydrogen deliveries, which are anticipated to begin in early 2029. With a contractual duration of at least 10 years, this agreement sets a solid foundation for long-term sustainable hydrogen supply, emphasizing the commitment of the involved parties towards decarbonizing the energy sector. The use of renewable electricity in the hydrogen production process underlines the eco-friendly nature of this initiative, reflecting the growing importance of green energy solutions in the global energy transition.
