In a groundbreaking effort towards sustainable energy production and cross-border collaboration, six major energy companies from Algeria, Germany, Italy, and Austria have joined hands to explore the production of green hydrogen. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, VNG, Snam, Seacorridor, and Verbund Green Hydrogen aims to assess the viability and profitability of an integrated project for green hydrogen production in Algeria. This initiative will utilize the SoutH2 Corridor, a 3300 km pipeline project, to supply green hydrogen to the European market. The signing ceremony, held at the Oran Convention Center and chaired by the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, marks a significant milestone in promoting energy transition and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The collaborative project not only aims to meet the green energy needs of Europe but also positions Algeria as a key energy supplier to the continent. By integrating stakeholders along the value chain, this project emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in achieving a sustainable and low-carbon economy.
