ArcelorMittal has launched HyMatch®, a new steel offer designed for the construction of hydrogen pipelines to support the growing hydrogen gas infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the European Union's ambitious targets for renewable hydrogen production. The company introduces HyMatch® steels alongside XCarb® steel certificates, allowing customers to report reduced Scope 3 emissions through CO2 abatement projects. The steel grades in the HyMatch® product family have fine microstructure and good cleanliness to minimize the risk of hydrogen embrittlement, addressing the unique challenges of hydrogen transportation. ArcelorMittal's R&D efforts are dedicated to enhancing steel performance for hydrogen infrastructure. Research programs are ongoing in production sites in France and Germany, along with R&D laboratories in Belgium. These activities aim to ensure that customers meet the latest technical requirements for safe and efficient hydrogen operations. The company is actively participating in various industrial and European-funded projects to drive innovation in this field. HyMatch® steel is tailored to meet industry standards such as ASME B31.12 option B and is undergoing rigorous testing according to the latest guidelines.
