Boeing has entered into a strategic partnership with Norsk e-Fuel to support the development of one of Europe's first industrial-scale Power-to-Liquids (PtL) facilities in Oslo, Norway. This collaboration aims to accelerate the production and availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the Nordics and globally, with the goal of reducing aviation emissions and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 as per the common objective of the commercial aviation industry and ICAO member states. Norsk e-Fuel will produce electro-SAF, or e-SAF, through the PtL process, involving the use of fossil-free power to create green hydrogen and combining it with recycled CO₂ from biogenic sources. This innovative fuel can significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of air travel by over 90% compared to traditional jet fuel. The initiative aligns with the RefuelEU SAF mandate to increase the share of SAF in Europe, targeting 6% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, with specific sub-mandates for e-SAF, including those produced by Norsk e-Fuel. Boeing's investment will play a crucial role in meeting the SAF volume requirements outlined by the EU commitments and enhancing national energy security in the Nordics.
