In a significant move towards a sustainable energy future, the energy ministers of Italy, Germany, and Austria have signed a joint declaration of intent in Brussels to develop the Southern Hydrogen Corridor. This corridor, a project of common interest recognized by the EU, will facilitate the import of hydrogen between the three countries. The hydrogen will be primarily produced in North Africa using wind and solar energy, with transportation through existing natural gas pipelines.
