Europe's push to become carbon neutral by 2050 is seeing the rise of clean tech companies leading the forefront. In Rotterdam, a Dutch firm has developed a groundbreaking technology called the Battolyser® with the support of EU financial backing. This innovation is an electrolyzer that can store renewable energy and produce green hydrogen, aiming to reduce fossil fuel dependency. The system, invented at a Dutch university, can be fed by wind and solar energy, offering flexibility in energy production and usage. This technology is unique in its ability to adjust hydrogen production based on power prices, providing an additional revenue stream by delivering electricity back to the grid. The Battolyser® has been tested at an industrial scale in a Dutch power plant, with plans for commercial deployment in various industries. The company is set to build a large-scale factory at the Port of Rotterdam, aligning with the vision of a decentralized energy system that integrates batteries and hydrogen production. With a 40 million euro finance deal from the European Investment Bank, backed by the InvestEU Fund, the company is poised to scale up production and contribute significantly to the energy transition. The hope is that this Dutch technology will soon be widely adopted, starting its rollout later this year.
