The EastGateH2V project, aimed at establishing a hydrogen valley in the Košice region of Slovakia, has officially commenced with the support of the European Union. The Košice Self-Governing Region, serving as the project coordinator, has successfully secured nine million euros for the initiative involving 22 partners from seven European countries. This project, funded through the Horizon Europe program, focuses on sustainable hydrogen production, distribution, and consumption in various transport sectors such as buses, maritime, and air transport. The region plans to produce green hydrogen using renewable sources of electricity. The project envisions creating a sustainable ecosystem and aims to produce 170 tons of green hydrogen annually by 2027 to fuel hydrogen buses, boats, and drones in the region. The initiative is viewed as a significant step towards decarbonizing European industries, transport, and energy. The project's emphasis on collaboration with key players from Slovakia and other European countries like the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Slovenia, Spain, and Germany highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in developing a connected European hydrogen economy. The initiative also aims to establish cross-border hydrogen corridors to facilitate the smooth transportation of hydrogen between countries.
