EDP has achieved a significant milestone by completing the environmental processing for its ambitious project to establish a renewable hydrogen valley in Campo de Gibraltar, specifically focusing on transforming the central of Los Barrios in Cadiz, Spain. This project, known as Green H2 Los Barrios, has received Integrated Environmental Authorization, indicating a substantial investment of almost 200 million euros. The aim is to develop a cutting-edge initiative that aligns with the European Commission's decarbonization goals and has been recognized as an Important Project of Common European Interest. This designation has enabled significant financial support, with 78 million euros granted by the Spanish Government towards the project's first phase. EDP's strategic approach involves using wind and solar power plants to power electrolyzers for renewable hydrogen production, emphasizing the role of electrolysis in decarbonizing challenging economic sectors.
