Empowering the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley through Innovative Industrial Testbed Projects
Key Ideas
  • Seventeen industrial testbed projects are underway to support the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley initiative, focusing on hydrogen solutions implementation and infrastructure development.
  • The Consortium emphasizes the importance of synchronized implementation and support initiatives for the success of the project, with a focus on autonomous hydrogen production and uptake.
  • Collaboration extends to education and awareness-raising on hydrogen technology, including vocational training programs, interdisciplinary education, and establishing a Competence Centre for Hydrogen Research.
  • Efforts are made to align education with gender equality policies and expand collaborations beyond the North Adriatic region to Central and South-Eastern European territories.
Seventeen industrial "testbed" projects are in progress to support the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley (NAHV) initiative, a partnership involving Slovenia, Croatia, and the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The smooth and synchronized implementation of these projects is deemed crucial for the success of the NAHV, aiming to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen solutions and enable autonomous production, transmission, storage, and use of renewable hydrogen in the region. The public Testbeds Catalogue offers insights into the ongoing projects. The Municipality of Cres recently joined the project to develop hydrogen infrastructure on the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, highlighting a significant advancement. Collaboration among the three countries also extends to education and awareness-raising on hydrogen technology. This includes various education-related activities to train future professionals and experts in hydrogen technologies, coordinated by universities and industrial partners. Vocational training programs are in preparation, supported by regional ministries and aiming for funding through the European Social Fund. The Consortium is working on developing micro-credentials for industry professionals' reskilling and upskilling. Additionally, efforts are underway to establish a Macro-Regional Competence Centre for Hydrogen Research and Education and enhance existing educational mentoring programs. The focus is on developing interdisciplinary international degree prototypes and promoting gender equality in education. The initiative seeks to expand collaborations beyond the NAHV region to other European territories, fostering a broader impact in the energy transition and hydrogen technology sector.
