EU Funds Green Energy Projects Across Europe
Key Ideas
  • The European Commission has allocated EUR 1.02 million for four green energy projects under the 2023 Connecting Europe Facility for Energy call.
  • The funded projects include a green hydrogen cluster, a radial wind farm, a green fuel storage terminal, and a potential wind farm in the North Sea.
  • These projects aim to promote renewable energy generation, green fuels production, and cross-border energy connections in Europe.
  • The funding aligns with the EU's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and supports the development of offshore electricity grids and hydrogen projects.
The European Commission has selected four project studies for funding under the 2023 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Energy call. These studies will assess planned cross-border solar and offshore wind projects involving Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Portugal. One of the highlighted projects is the Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster, aiming to develop a cluster of wind and photovoltaic production sites, electrolyzers, and pipelines for hydrogen production. Another project involves building a radial wind farm in Denmark connected to the German grid. Additionally, Madoqua Green Fuels Terminal Lda plans to construct a solar-powered green fuel storage and bunkering terminal in Portugal. The final project study explores the potential construction of a wind farm in the North Sea for energy interconnection between Germany and Scotland. These initiatives support the EU's Trans-European Networks for Energy Regulation to integrate power and gas infrastructure. The EU funding, totaling EUR 1.02 million, focuses on green energy projects to accelerate the transition to a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. The initiatives also include offshore electricity grids and hydrogen projects, marking a shift towards cleaner energy sources and infrastructure development in Europe.
