Structural changes in permitting for renewable projects and hydrogen initiatives are expected to further speed up this transition. The REPowerEU plan introduced by the European Commission aims to enhance energy independence and boost clean energy adoption. Initiatives like the Innovation Fund auction and Renewable Energy Sources Auction platform are set to facilitate investment in renewable technologies, with a particular focus on green hydrogen. Member states are encouraged to contribute to renewable energy targets through their National Energy and Climate Plans. The push for renewable hydrogen is evident with the European Hydrogen Strategy targeting 20 million tons of hydrogen consumption annually by 2030, with half of this to be produced within the EU. Investments in infrastructure for green hydrogen production are crucial for achieving these ambitious targets and ensuring a sustainable energy future for Europe.
